About The Story Folk

Folklore: the traditional beliefs, customs, and stories of a community, passed through the generations by word of mouth.

At The Story Folk, we believe that folklore is the secret ingredient in all storytelling, written and told.

From worldbuilding to rules of magic, story structure to character tropes, secret histories and ghostly encounters, folklore is everywhere. It holds the key to our innate need to create and share tales. It is the heart of our very nature.
We help you to create and experience stories using the essence of folklore through:

Writing Workshops for adults and children

Creative Facilitation and working with regional & community based histories/traditions

Storytelling (information to follow)

The Story Folk was founded by Carnegie-nominated author Emily Randall-Jones. Her first books The Witchstone Ghosts and The Scream of The Whistle were inspired by folklore, ghost stories and local legends, and thus a passion for folk- based storytelling and literature was born! After running several author workshops and writing seminars helping both young people and adults create their own stories through the folklore lens, she undertook an Arts Council DYCP grant focusing on Folklore and Creative Writing.

Emily is also a former actor, heritage interpreter for the National Trust and Hampton Court Palace, and currently works in an alternative education provision teaching storytelling on 'page and stage.' She's DBS certified, a member of The Folklore Society and the Society For Storytelling.
